2019 Victorian Holiday!

2019 marks the 171st Christmas season at Harmony Hall. Christmas traditions developed in the 1800’s included the creation of Santa Claus by author Washington Irving and cartoonist Thomas Nast. Christmas trees were popularized by Queen Victoria and her German husband Prince Albert. In 1848, London magazines published woodcut illustrations of the Royal Family’s tree. Charles Dickens galvanized citizenry on both sides of the Atlantic with his beloved A Christmas Carol, establishing heartfelt reminders of the reason for the season.

Celebrate the start of this holiday season at Harmony Hall. The Friends of Harmony Hall-Jacob Sloat house present their annual Victorian Holiday open house Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 1p.m. to 5p.m.

A treasured local tradition for this state and national register site, the Greek Revival mansion will be decorated in Victorian finery and guests will enjoy: Savories, hot mulled cider, holiday craft shop, accomplished local musicians, children’s crafts and Santa and Mrs. Klaus. December festivities in the village of Sloatsburg continue on December 8 with the annual caroling and tree lighting. The revitalized main street of Sloatsburg offers numerous fine dining options and The Friends of Harmony Hall will be open to receive carolers at that time as well.
